Fiji vacation options are many, due to the unique geography of the area. There are 322 islands that make up Fiji, and only 106 of these are inhabited. In addition, 522 small islands, or islets, are also considered Fijjian. Of the islands, the two most important are Viti Levu and Vanau Levu, which are both mountainous and covered in tropical forests. The capital city of Fiiji, Suva, is located on Viti Levu, and houses approximately three quarters of the population. On Vanau Levu, the main cities are Labasa and Savusavu, both major trade centers. Other important islands include Tveuni and Kadavu, the Mamanuca islands and the Yasawa islands, the Lomaiviti islands, and the Lau island group.

Geologists theorize that Viti Levu has actually been submerged multiple times, which helps to explain why the fifth largest island after Tasmania, in Oceania has such a unique and rugged terrain. The eastern side of the island is known for heavy rainbfall and a growing dairy industry, while the western side is primarily dry, and home to large scale sugar cane production. The nations highest Tomanivi, also known as Mt. Victoria, is also located on this important Fijjian island.

Travelers with an interest in unusual insects will also want to be on the look out for one of the worlds largest insects, the Giant Fjian Long Horned Beetle, during their Fijian vacation. This insects can grow as large as 15 cm, excluding legs, antennae, and jaws, making this specimen the second largest of all known beetles.

Vanau Levu, the second largest island of Fiji, has a population of around 130,000 and has is believed to be a combination of several islands that fused together during continental shifts. This island is known also for a series of rivers, including the Wailevu and the Labasa, both of which contain an abundance of natural and unique wildlife. No Fiji vacation is complete without a visit to this island, and its three unique provinces, the Bua in the west, Macuata in the north east and Cakaudrove in the south east.

A Fiji vacation can be as localized as a stay on Viti Levu or as broadened as a trip to one of the more outlying, smaller islands. Either way, every Fiji vacation is a unique and truly unforgettable experience, and provides the opportunity for once in a lifetime sights, sounds, culture, cuisine, and more. Book your vacation today, and experience the islands of Fiji for yourself.
